Ethical Style essay free essay sample
My personal ethics are shaped by my training and responsibility as a sailor serving in the US Navy coupled with my duties and responsibilities as a Christian. At different times my ethical approach changes but can be mostly characterized as a bridge between a utilitarian, loyalist, Judeo-Christian, and intuitive ethical styles. The utilitarian and loyalist style aligns with my leadership role in the military supporting the motto ââ¬Å"mission + men = successâ⬠with an emphasis on mission first. Leaders are often faced with making a decision that affects the group as a whole and must consider how the consequence effect the groups as a whole calling into play the utilitarian style. The Navy also demands my loyalty as we are sworn to obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me. On the other hand my personal/religious approach is governed by the Judeo-Christian style with the Golden Rule at the forefront of my mind. This allows me to make split ethical decisions without an extensive thought process. One day I was approached by a sailor who claimed that Leading Chief Petty officer in the food service division was running him down and he was concerned that one day he would not be able to control his emotion. I asked him if there were any others that felt the same way and he stated yes but they donââ¬â¢t want to speak out and just wanted to get the job done and go home. I told him that I would ask some questions and look into before I took any action. That Friday my Command Master Chief (CMC) he has heard about a possible equal opportunity issue and wanted to know why I have not told him about it. The Chief Petty Officer and I had a great relationship and I would consider him a friend however since he was a rank higher than I we did not cross those boundaries. I had a conversation with him and let him talk up the subject of work and the pressure he was under to perform and offered to come down and assist him and I also talked to the Supply Officer and offered my assistance in order to defuse the situation. These gestures were politely turned down and I was ordered to by the Supply Officer not to look into it any further. I ensured him that I was looking into the issues at the lowest level possible, that I have temporarily defused the situation and if I saw any evidence to their claims I would let him know immediately. Just like the sailor said everyone had issues and the more I looked into it the more I uncovered. I was faced with a decision try to help the chief and the mission or address the issues of the masses.
Post 21st Century Autobiography Ugly Essay Example For Students
Post 21st Century Autobiography Ugly Essay And she had to go to the doctor because her nipples looked exactly like symptoms of breast cancer. This was because Carmen used to pull by them and pinch and twist them. And as well as all these troubles she suffered from normal teenage pressure. She was embarrassed immensely by her mother as she told her friends Constance still wet the bed. She also suffered from verbal abuse as her mother called her clear because she could see right through her. But Carmen replied to this by saying that she only called her clear because he had clear skin and it wasnt a term of abuse. She stated that she was also called ugly When she asked her other to by her school picture. This book, I believe unique as all the emotion and pain described in the book isnt fiction, its the truth. Or is it? The million dollar question is: whose crying out the truth and whos spitting out lies forged as reality.. Is Carmen really innocent and has been savagely accused? Or has Constances really suffered in silence in her traumatizing past. As I zoomed closer into the speech made in the interviews and seized seemingly exaggerated facts I really didnt know who to believe. Oddly enough nearly all of Carmens sons and daughters declared that none of this happened and Constance is just lying. But they may not know what happened as Constance suffered in silence. And they may have not noticed the abuse that she was suffering as Carmen made up convincing excuses to steer her children away from suspecting anything as her excuse for Constance with bumps was she fell. Its nothing which is believable. Here are some quotations and reasons too justify against Carmen, who I believe may be lying: I will never speak to you again as long as I live The picture in which her and her mother attended at her sisters anniversary could prove that they werent talking to each other as neither of them were smiling yet they were ready for the photo. I did not smack them and did not want anyone else to hurt them. Most Jamaicans believe in strict discipline like in the schools where they get harsh beatings. So this is highly unbelievable as they were immigrants. My hair stated falling out Signs of stress begging to show. Wetting the bed should have stopped around the age of eleven, but it didnt because of the stress and anxiety her mother put her in. And if she did make it all up then how does she remember all the little horrific details which she has to have suffered to have remembered this much. Even I, when I write a short story cannot remember all the details so how can she remember without having experienced it. And why would she make up such cruel lies? She lives in a one million home with a great occupation so she doesnt need the money. And even if she did why would she use her mother as a bait when she could use hundreds of other people who have died or someone made up with different excuse? Carmen, in her interview with the Daily mail said that Eastmans solicitor said that was no reports of this prosecution but they could have been lost. And there was no statement in which the abuse was reported but could just be because back then social workers werent as careful on children as they are now. And although the fact that there is no evidence to support Constances claims there is no evidence that she I still believe that she was abused and so does her older sister pasty as she agrees with her. .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be , .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be .postImageUrl , .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be , .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be:hover , .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be:visited , .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be:active { border:0!important; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be:active , .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8ec774f9e83e517b9408ddfca75507be:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: With Its Long Slender Body The Snakes Probably The Funniest Shaped C EssaySo I conclude with saying that dont judge a book by its cover. Women in early America struggle, survival, and freedom in a new world
Dorothy Mays is one of the cotemporary scholars who wrote about the position of women in the US before independence. The scholar wrote a book entitled Women in early America: struggle, survival and freedom in a new world. The author aims at exposing some difficulties that women faced before independence, such as unemployment, cultural biases, male patriarchy and sexual violence.Advertising We will write a custom book review sample on Women in early America: struggle, survival, and freedom in a new world specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The writer has a main purpose of showing how women managed to survive. She postulates that women could adopt some mechanisms that would help them counter cultural and social biases. With major political, socio-cultural and economic developments, women were able to fight for their rights. Dorothy is an assistant professor as well as a librarian at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. The writer h olds an MA degree in History from the University of Virginia. She further holds an MLS from Indiana State University. The writer has written extensively on the role of women in America. Her works have changed the position of many women as well as men. However, her works on ââ¬ËWomen in Americaââ¬â¢ have elicited heated debate among scholars of history and Gender studies. Her works are mostly influenced by personal experiences, having worked in various administrative positions. She knows the challenges that women face in their everyday lives. Her vast experience on women issues and good educational foundation allows her to analyze positions of women in the modern society successfully (Oates 47). The writer observes that women have not enjoyed freedom in political and economic history of America. They have always been under men in all fonts. Women were socialized to respect and offer men necessary support. The state on its part had no policies that could save women from all thes e tribulations. Labor was allocated according to gender meaning that some jobs were reserved for men. Women could only participate in minor activities, which forced them to be completely reliant on men. Women were not allowed to participate in political processes such as voting and being voted for. The writer shows that women had the same capacities as those of men but were not allowed to contribute their ideas in developing the country. For instance, women were not permitted to present their candidature for consideration during military recruitment. The writer demonstrates that during American Revolution, women were forced to seek for safety because they could not be allowed to join their husbands in defending their interests (Mays 19). In this regard, there were many female refugees.Advertising Looking for book review on gender studies? Let's see if we can help you! Finally, the writer shows that women have succeeded in fighting male patriarchy but there is still a long way to go. The major problem in the modern world is ensuring gender equilibrium at the work place. Women are still underpaid while they are expected to perform both at home and at work place. The writer shows that this is a major concern to women. Dorothy intended to challenge the existing societal structure because it is sustained by subjugating and oppressing a section of its members. She argues that women have never been given a chance to prove their worth in society. In this regard, her main goal is to persuade members of society to accept equality and equal representation. She claims that women should be allowed to own property and enjoy full rights just as men. The book manages to persuade the reader because facts are ordered logically. She talks much about American Revolution and how women were affected by the conflict between the col onists and Americans. The author achieves her main objective because of the way she presents her ideas. In this case, the book has a central idea that the rest of the text revolves around. The main idea or thesis is the sufferings of women during colonialism. This demonstrates that women have never enjoyed any rights throughout American history. The writer develops her thesis by claiming that women adopted some ways that could help them survive. In chapter eight for example, she links the sufferings of women to drug addiction. She claims that American men could engage in alcoholism while abandoning their families. In chapter 15, she relates modern religion that is, Christianity, to the tribulations of black women. Black Americans allowed women to take over leadership positions in church. The Church of England, which was supported by colonists, did not appreciate the efforts of women in society. The author manages to convince readers to believe that women underwent difficult situatio ns in traditional America. The author targeted all members of society because she urges women to rise up to the occasion and take up leadership roles. Men are also convinced to believe that women can deliver than some men. She observes that physical qualities should not be used to discriminate some members of society.Advertising We will write a custom book review sample on Women in early America: struggle, survival, and freedom in a new world specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The book is very interesting, especially when the writer gives her views on the position of women during American Revolution. In chapter 19, she argues that some women were brave enough to seek for justice and freedom through scrupulous means such as escape, self-purchase or manumission. This is interesting because some men could not attempt to escape. This shows that women have courage and are determined to fight for their rights. The writer is biased becaus e she presents American society as having only a single conflict that is, gender conflict. In America, there were several conflicts such as conflict between the rich and the poor, conflict between blacks and whites and conflict between the youth and the old. The writer does not capture any of this in her analysis (Okihiro 7). On the side of sources, the writer manages to give several readings that could help the reader understand the concept of gender disparity in detail. She uses both primary and secondary sources of data to argue her case. She uses interviews to collect information from respondents, which means that primary data is used extensively. Secondary sources include article journals and books. Dorothy gives detailed information pertaining to the position of women in America in early days. She evaluates all factors that contributed to female subjugation in society. The author uses pictures to show how the society expected women to behave. In chapter thirteen, she shows how women were treated in case found guilty of adultery. The picture shows a women being beaten by members of the public. Men could not undergo such torments despite the fact that they were leading in adultery. This was aimed at scaring women from participating or engaging in extra-marital relationships. In contrast, men were allowed to engage in extra-marital relationships because they had a right to do anything in society. Mary Ellen Quinn gave her suggestion about the book by claiming that there ââ¬Ëwere some inconsistencies in sources particularly in the biographical entriesââ¬â¢. She concurs with the reasoning of the author by arguing that the book provides important information on the position of women during colonialism in America. She recommends the book to students and members of the public wishing to acquire knowledge about women sufferings in America. Maryââ¬â¢s arguments are strongly supported because the book is helpful to the reader. The book offers an insight to policy makers as regards to the problems of women in the world generally. The writer identifies religion, culture and male patriarchy as being the major hindrances to women success in society. The views are strongly supported by the reviewer because women have undergone untold sufferings in history such as rape and domestic violence. The book is recommended to readers interested in familiarizing themselves with feminine issues.Advertising Looking for book review on gender studies? Let's see if we can help you! Korea threats essays
Korea threats essays The article that I found deals with one of the countrys that President Bush has deemed the axis of evil. North Korea is one of a few counties that pose as a genuine threat, not only to the United States, but to the rest of the world as well. North Korea has finally admitted to an active nuke program after it has promised to discontinue their activity. Their nuclear capability worries the people of South Korea and the United States, which has been expressed numerous times by President Bush. North Korea is the country that poses as a serious threat to the United States. Iraq is the other country that Bush has labeled was part of the axis of evil; Iran is the only other country than North Korea that is seen as a large threat. The United Sates had arranged to help North Korea in 2002; in fact they were ready to take economic and political steps to improve the lives of North Korea civilization. North Korea then admitted they had a mass destruction program; this is after the US rightfully vowed not to harbor any country that supports terrorism. North Korea has continually let the international community that they have the ability to build nuclear warheads since 2002. At the end of 2002, they were found two have enough plutonium two build two nuclear bombs. They were trying to lure the United States to help North Korea in their never ending war with South Korea. North Korea wanted the US to look out for their people and give food to a malnourished country. At the same time they were trying to get our support by threatening our country. In conclusion, according to the just war theory the country that we would have rightfully gone to war with is North Korea. The just cause is seen as to secure the life of not only the people in North and South Korea but also all the countries that are in danger by North Korea. Iraq was never found to have mass weapons of destruction, and that is the main reason people are ex...

Does My Generation Have a Role in America's Future Essay
Does My Generation Have a Role in America's Future - Essay Example I believe that my generation has a role to play in Americaââ¬â¢s future. My generation has a role to play in Americaââ¬â¢s future in the sense that it is a generation which continues to engage itself in new technology and innovations which make life easier for millions of Americans. We are a generation which continues to explore the latest technologies ââ¬â technologies ââ¬â which make tasks easier and more efficient to undertake (BBC News, 2). These technologies also make tasks faster and less energy consuming. Considering the fact that production lines often take up more of our natural resources on a daily basis, technological innovations which consume less energy and which accomplish tasks efficiently are important novelties in securing a sustainable future. We have a role to play in Americaââ¬â¢s future because we, more than any other generation, have a greater affinity to these technologies (BBC News, 2-3). We understand its usage more than our older counterpart s, and we are eager to embrace these technologies and their implications in our daily activities. Moreover, we are eager to learn more and explore more of these technologies and to consider where they can take us (BBC News, 2-4). These technological innovations also come in the form of digital technology. I have a role in Americaââ¬â¢s future because further developments in digital technology will be continuously introduced in our society (vanââ¬â¢tHooft, p. 2). This digital technology will be easier for us to utilize because, from our earliest years in the academe, this technology will be used as medium of instruction. Digital technology will become a major part of our life and our primary means of conducting transactions, business, and other activities. The older generation would likely be having a more difficult time adjusting to the use of digital

Competitive Antagonism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Competitive Antagonism - Essay Example Here, ACh is the agonist of muscarinic receptors. Mechanism of smooth muscle contraction ââ¬â When ACh stimulates the G-protein coupled muscarinic receptors, a conformational change occurs, leading to the activation of the G-protein. The activated G-protein activates the intracellular enzyme, PLC (phospholipase C). This enzyme in turn hydrolyses PI(4,5)P2 (phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate). This hydrolysis results in the production of two compounds ââ¬â DAG (diacylglycerol) and IP3 (inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate). IP3 is soluble and diffuses through the cytosol. It binds to receptors on the endoplasmic reticulum resulting in the release of calcium ions (Ca2+) from the intracellular stores. The rise in intracellular calcium ions results in contraction of the smooth muscle. This happens when the intracellular calcium ions bind to calmodulin and activate it. Activation of calmodulin results in activation of the myosin light-chain kinase (MLCK) enzyme by the calcium-calmodulin complex, which then catalyzes the transfer of ph osphate group from ATP to myosin cross bridges. The phosphorylated myosin cross bridges then interact with actin, causing shortening of the fiber. This results in muscle contraction. The cross-bridge cycle is powered by ATP. Second messenger involved - IP3 (inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate) is the second messenger, as it relays the signal from outside the cell to the inside, resulting in the release of calcium ions that cause muscle contraction. Acetylcholine (ACh) and adrenaline (Ad) are two agonists whose actions are independent of one another and result in opposite effects. Ad brings about the relaxation of pre-contracted smooth muscle by acting via the G-protein coupled à ²-adrenergic receptors on the cells. Mechanism of Ad induced relaxation of pre-contracted smooth muscle ââ¬â Ad binds to the G-protein linked à ²-adrenergic receptor causing a conformational change in the G-protein. This activates the enzyme adenylate cyclase.
